Active Tourism

Speleology is the science that studies caves. A blend of science and adventure. We will discover the secrets of our planet's interior. Spectacular rock formations that are the origin of what we see every day on the surface. In the mountains of Alicante, there are countless caves, both horizontal and vertical. Discover the subterranean world: narrow passages, dark shafts… stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and countless other formations will be our companions, helping us discover and understand the marvelous underground world.

Prices: €40 per person (Cova de la Sarsa, Cova Fosca). €45 per person (Sumidor, Vallada). Discounts for groups of 10 or more people.

Transportation: Not included. (Cost of €10/person for transport, subject to availability).

Includes: Accident insurance. Helmet, full-body suit or wetsuit (depending on the type of cave), flashlights, and specific equipment.

Requirements: Not recommended for people with claustrophobia, vertigo, dizziness, and/or pregnant women.

When can it be done? On any date scheduled by Tramuntana Aventura (see calendar), or if you are a group of 4 or more, on the day that best suits you (check availability).

Aquatic Caving at Túnel del Sumidor (Vallada, Valencia)

Best season: All year round.

Approximate duration: 4 to 5 hours.
Walking to the place of the activity: 30 min.
Activity: 3 to 4 hours.
Walking back to the car park: 30 min.

Meeting point: At the Tramuntana Aventura office or in the village of Vallada, at the car park next to the Hermitage and the swimming pool.

Basic characteristics: Semi-aquatic caving, introductory level, technically easy and featuring a wide range of interesting features.

Activity description:

An interesting cave formed mainly of gypsum and clay, with different chambers and cavities. The route is done on foot, through water passages and with some sections that require small scrambles and easy downclimbs.

The cave has a recognised provisional vertical drop of 205 metres and a total length of around 1,300 metres, making it the deepest gypsum cave in the world.

Another unique feature of the cave is the presence of a colony of troglodyte bats of great interest, although they are not always easy to spot, as they are the fastest-flying species.

We will be able to observe how water erosion has created different cavities and curious formations, along with several surprises, especially towards the final section.

Dry Caving at Cova de la Sarsa (Bocairent, Valencia)

Best season: All year round.

Approximate duration: 4 hours.
Walking to the place of the activity: 20 min.
Activity: 3 hours 20 min.
Walking back to the car park: 20 min.

Meeting point: At the Tramuntana Aventura office or in the town of Bocairent, at the entrance to the El Regadiu industrial area.

Basic characteristics: Caving in a dry cave, introductory level, technically easy and featuring a large number of formations.

Activity description:

An interesting, beautiful and easy limestone cave that offers a gentle introduction to caving. Progression through the cave is enjoyable and fun, with a few narrow passages that allow close contact with the terrain, as well as some easy scrambles and downclimbs that involve no real difficulty but make participants feel like true explorers in search of underground adventure.

The cave is remarkable both for the quantity and the quality of its formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, columns and draperies.

This is a cave “with history”, of Neolithic origin, whose archaeological site is considered one of the most important in the Levant region of Spain. More information about its history and findings can be found in the museums of Alcoy, Valencia and Madrid.

Activity: 3 hours.
Walking back to the car park: 20 min.

Meeting point: At the Tramuntana Aventura office or at the Cova Fosca car park (Beniarbeig).

Basic characteristics: Dry caving activity, introductory level, technically easy, featuring 4 abseils.

Activity description: A simple limestone cave that provides an introduction to caving and basic abseiling techniques.
